- Submit the Montessori School of Cumming Application and schedule your child’s interview with the classroom teacher.
- Bring your child to visit the classroom and complete the interview process. Depending on the age of your child, the content and duration of the interview will vary. The information listed below by class level will let you know more about what to expect on the day of the interview.
Toddler ( Ages 15 months - 3 Years Old )
Your child will be greeted by the teacher at the classroom door and he/she will enter the classroom with the teacher. Parents may choose to wait in the parking lot or leave campus during the interview. Your child’s visit to the classroom will be 30 to 40 minutes in duration and will serve to orient your child to the classroom as well as provide an opportunity to receive a few Montessori lessons from the teacher. Sometimes the experience of entering the classroom for the first time may upset your child. The teacher will attempt to comfort your child by introducing the classroom pets, visiting the garden space or playground, and following the interests of the student. The teacher and child will meet the parents in the lobby at the conclusion of the visit. The short nature of the visit is reassuring to your child and helps prepare them for the first day of school. |
Primary ( Ages 2 1/2 - 6 + )
The teacher will greet your child at the classroom door and he/she will enter the classroom with the teacher. The visit will last approximately 45 minutes - 1hour. Parents will need to plan to leave campus during the interview or wait in the school parking area. This allows your child to focus in the classroom without being distracted by the desire to be with you. Your child will be oriented to the classroom and will receive several lessons from the teacher. Through the teacher’s observations and your child’s response to the lessons, the teacher will be able to prepare to meet your child’s academic, physical, and social needs through the Montessori curriculum. The teacher will walk your child to the lobby to join you. |
Elementary (Ages 6-12 Years Old)
The prospective elementary student will visit the classroom for an entire morning beginning at 8:30 am and concluding at 11:30 am. During the visit your child will be receiving lessons from the teacher and will be interacting with the other students in the classroom. The teacher will have the opportunity to observe your child’s work and converse with the student throughout the morning. The full morning in the classroom will allow the teacher to better understand the student’s previous learning experiences as well as their interests. The teacher will utilize the information gathered during the interview to best meet the student’s academic and social needs at the time of enrollment. Following the interview, the teacher will consult with the administrator concerning the student’s admission. |
